About Us

Caboodle is a unique store set out to make the world a better place a little bit at a time.  The impetus for Caboodle came when I was a La Leche League Leader and ran into mothers who were crafty as well as talented.  These moms would often craft a gift rather than buy one.  I thought it would be really cool if there was a store out there where these stay-at-home moms could sell their items without having to produce them by the hundreds.  Some of our gifts come from other small home based businesses or young entrepreneurs.  Some of our items are unique in that they are reusing an item in a new and creative way.  Ultimately, we strive to offer unique items that are handcrafted locally and gentle on the Earth.  This makes the world a better place.
Caboodle is shopping with a conscience!

Caboodle also has a Back Room that is used for meetings, classes or events.  If you have an interest in using the space contact Marlene at Caboodle via email, phone or in person.

     Brenda Neely
Brenda Neely is just such a nice person and she is so talented!  How could anyone not have a great day when you have one of her fabulous tea bag holders.  Now that sounds a little odd but these cute little dishes carry uplifting sayings and the beauty of nature.  There is one that suits the need of anyone.  I think more people buy them for a myriad of other reasons than tea bags, though.  Brenda also creates wonderful stoneware picture frames, small sculptures, wind chimes, soap dishes, spoon rests and ornaments (just to name a few!).  Brenda has been crafting her stoneware art for 25 years now.

     Tri-Star Artistic Glass Studio
Karen and Heather at Tri-Star are great ladies.  They are so sweet and extremely talented.  They do the stained glass on the windows at Caboodle.  We have everything from birds to hearts and more abstract pieces.  We also carry a few bigger pieces like the GORGEOUS 3D stars and the window hanging you see in the picture as well as lamps.  I'm sure you will find something to your liking!

     Heidi's Handcrafted Quilts
Heidi is a magnificent seamstress and quilter.  This lap quilt hanging on the wall at Caboodle gets oohs and ahhhs from everyone.  Heidi makes quilts of all sizes and for all types of happenings: birthday parties, retirement, friends moving away, you name it!  Heidi also teaches our quilting class.

Bomblicious
These cupcake bath bombs are the cutest thing you will ever see!  We usually have holiday themed as well as *regular* ones.  Each cupcake is put into a bath and you can soak away all your cares while imagining yourself in an exotic, hot climate with scents such as the Sands of Morocco.  Or maybe you're more the banana split type.  Either way, these bath bombs are a whimsical, fun way to make any day special.  They look good enough to eat!

     HeartSong Art
Alison loves mosaics and you certainly can tell that when you look at this remarkable table.  This table can have the legs easily removed so it can be hung on the wall also.  Alison does tables of all shapes and sizes as well as trays, picture frames, tea kettles and birdhouses, just to name a few.  Alison likes to take found objects and give them a new life as a beautiful mosaic piece of art.  We also have some traditional pottery and raku pottery from Alison.  Another Jill of all trades!

     Tumbleweed Soap
Tumbleweed soaps are all natural soaps made with various oils and things like shea butter, aloe, oatmeal, honey and goat's milk.  We carry a goat's milk and honey with oatmeal soap that is unscented and one in lavender to help you relax in the evening; French Green Clay for a fresh, clean face; Rosemary Mint to wake you up and clean out your pores; Babyface which is gentle enough to use on a baby or as a shaving cream for men; Orange Ginger to help you de-stress and awaken your senses; (my favorite) Lemongrass with a wonderful lemon smell that is great for the kitchen or bathroom; and lastly Coffee which is actually unscented and is used to help neutralize odors in the kitchen, it's great for washing your hands after handling onions, garlic, fish, etc.

     To Market To Market
The dip and sauce mixes from To Market To Market are absolutely fabulous!  I've loved every one I've tried.  We currently carry Thrill of the Dill (my favorite), The Garlic of Eatin', Jack and the Bean Dip, Popeye's Passion, In a Jam, Roasted Red the Pepper Spread, Romas Burning and Cravin' Creole.  I often have customers buy several packages once they get a taste!  They are awesome.  You can make the dips or spreads ahead of time and have them ready to go for any party or event.  They will store in the frig for two weeks (or longer).  You can use them on crackers, chips, veggies and sandwiches.  Yum!

      Glass Art by Dawn
Dawn does beautiful glasswork, including fused and slumped glass.  These slumped wine bottle trays are one of the more popular items in the store.  They are actual wine bottles that have been reclaimed and repurposed into serving trays for all kinds of goodies for your next party-cheese cubes, olives, snack mix, herbed oils for bread dipping, you name it!  We also carry her flat cheese trays.  You can get these items plain, with a bottle label or painted with a variety of designs such as grapes, aspen trees in different seasons or just a whimsical design.  We also have magnets and small scenes done in fused glass that are miniature pieces of great art.

      Gislinde Engelman
I just love Gislinde!  She is a ray of sunshine when she comes through the door.  Gislinde makes stamped cards and she does a fantastic job.  We have happy birthday, thank you, congratulations, sympathy and blank cards.  We often have special holiday cards by Gislinde also.  You'll just have to come by and see these beautiful cards for yourself!

     Dave Villano
Dave Villano is a native of Denver and a wonderful young musician who has been playing professionally since 1990.  He can play a variety of instruments proficiently but focuses on guitar, violin and the Irish whistle.  Dave has performed with Shaded Red and is currently a member of Dave Beagle's Acoustic Band and has even performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.  All of this while working on his own music.  Dave currently has five CD's out of his music.  His music is mostly instrumental (but it doesn't put you to sleep-well, maybe Relax does but I think that might be the goal)  :)  What I like about Dave's music is that you can listen all the time.  It makes great background music for the day.  It's not too much and you aren't snoring.  His Christmas and the Hymns CD's, while adding his own touch, are still classic.  As with all the music at Caboodle, you can listen to the CD at the store before you buy.

        Sal Smith
Sal is also a Denver native and has been singing as long as I've known her (and I think long before I knew her!).  At the present time Sal's CD is the only Cd at Caboodle with lyrics.  Sal's style is accoustic and her CD includes original music as well as some beloved classics.  Listening to Sal's music takes me back to my days at camp and my wedding.  Sal sang at my wedding!  The hardest part of having her music playing all day is that I am constantly singing along and I'm not so sure the customer want to hear me!

     Elijah Bossenbroek
Elijah's CD's are one of the few items at Caboodle that aren't local but I think well worth it.  Elijah's music is modern classical piano.  I found Elijah online and just fell in love with his sound.  It's wonderful background music and when it is playing in the store people often ask me what is playing.  I could listen to Elijah all day (and often do!).

      Steve Haun
Steve Hahn grew up in Boulder among the beauty of nature.  Steve has 8 Cd's (but we only have three in the store at this time).  The CD's we have in Caboodle focus on the Rocky Mountains and the National Parks.  These CD's use sounds from nature to enhance the music that Steve has produced.  When you listen to Steve's music you feel like you are in the midst of the vast outdoors!  The perfect way to get away when you can't really go anywhere!

     Carl Sams II
The Carl Sams books are just incredible!  We have all three picture books at Caboodle.  The first book is Stranger In The Woods.  Carl Sams II and Jean Stoick built a snowman in the woods behind their studio and photographed the animals that came to visit and then turned it into a wonderful picture book.  Their second book is Lost In The Woods; a story about how mother deers leave their fawns unattended after birth for their protection.  This fawn explores the woods looking for his mother.  This a lesson in what to do when you find a fawn in the woods.  Their most recent picture book, which came out in 2008, is called First Snow In The Woods and is the story about how animals in the forest get ready for winter.  This is one of the very few items that aren't local but they are phenomenal.  These books have won all kinds of awards and are independently produced so they are very much in the spirit of Caboodle and as a former preschool and kindergarten teacher I can't give any higher recommendation than these books.

       Turtle Lake Refuge
Turtle Lake Refuge is in Durango Colorado.  You are invited to "step into the world of abundance, a wild world where nature's blessings are like fruit for the picking."  Their book titled Local Wild Life: Turtle Lake Refuge's Recipes for Living Deep is a compilation of wild, local, and living food recipes which are more than a recipe book.  "It is a journey of eleven years of a community embracing the earth's bounty.  It is a celebration of health from the individual to the planet.  It is an inspirational path of action back to our roots where all beings are honored as kin."  Sales of this book help support the Refuge.

     John Shimmin
John Shimmin spins a wonderful tale in this first book of his trilogy: The Manx Grail Chronicles Mystery of the Templar Treasure.  The story takes place on the Isle of Man as well as in the U.S. and is a wonderful mystery, written in the style of the DaVinci Code, about the Templar Nights, Druids and the Holy Grail.  You will devour the book and come back asking for the next installment.  Many of us are anxiously awaiting the second book (we'll have a big party/book signing when it comes out!).

     Castle Marne
Castle Marne is a local Bed and Breakfast that is on the National Historic Register that is a gem in the city.  They do high tea, meetings, and dinners as well.  So many people have marveled at their wonderful meals and teas that the Castle Marne has put out a cookbook full of some of their most popular recipes.  Caboodle is carrying the second edition of the Castle Marne Cookbook.  We just had to make the Egg Nog muffins for the holidays and everyone loved them!  You also get the wonderful and unique history of the Castle Marne in this excellent cookbook.  It's perfect for everyday or special events.  Quantities are very limited so stop in today for your copy before they are gone!

      Teatulia
Teatulia is a local tea company that works directly with a tea farm in India so they are assured of the finest organic ingredients.  Not only is the tea organic but the tea bag is also!  They only make eight teas but they do it well!  These are single ingredient teas.  No mixes or fillers-just tea leaves, pure and simple.  At Caboodle we sell individual tea bags so you can try the flavors you like in the quantities you want.  Teatulia won Westwords Best of Denver 2009 Best Tea award!

      Karrie McBryde
Karrie is a glass blower who is so talented!  She makes mugs, dragon tears/rain drops, orbs (balls), vases, bowls and seasonal items.  Karrie's creations are unique, colorful and beautiful!  Karrie was the first vendor to sign a contract with me so she has a special place in Caboodle's history.  People always comment on how very cool her items are.  One of the things I like about Karrie is that she will try to use discarded pieces of glass in her creations.  Using pieces that would otherwise have been thrown away.

       SwAgs
SwAgs was created by Sydney and Madison for a school project.  They were studying economics, consumerism and capitalism.  As a culmination of their expedition they had to create a product and sell it.  They did so well they decided to continue their venture.  SwAgs are old wool sweaters that are felted and turned into purses of different sizes from cell phone sized to large project bags.  A great Earth friendly item.

      Edwina Dawson
Do you need a bag that can do anything and go anywhere?  Then you need one of Edwina's bags!  Edwina is a Jill of all trades!  She sews, knits and weaves (to name just a few trades).  Edwina has a variety of purses and bags at Caboodle in all shapes and sizes.  Edwina also has regular scarves, chevron scarves and hat scarves in Caboodle.  You just have to stop by and see all her great creations!

      Natalie Martin
Natalie does some truly unique glass work.  She makes wonderfully abstract fused glass pendants (which my picture does not do justice to).  Some are on silver chains and some are on linen cords.  I can honestly say I have never seen anything else like them.  Everyone sees something different in each piece.  The more I look at them the more I like them!  Natalie has also created some wonderful fused glass coaster sets that are truly unique.  These sets make a wonderful gift for bosses, relatives or anybody who appreciates works of art that are also functional.

      Evergreen Candles
These are the best candles you could ever buy!  The candles are made with organic soy.  Soy is so much better for the environment than paraffin wax and they burn longer, too.  Linda doesn't use any coloring and pure oils (the smells are so real, not chemical smelling) for her scents.  Because the soy liquefies as it burns it leaves less of a residue on the container so it is easier to clean the soft soy leftovers out of the glass containers so they can be reused.  To top off all of that, Linda's house and business run on 100% wind power.  As green as green can be-they are extremely earth friendly.  These candles are one of my best sellers!  A great luxury are Evergreen Candles lotion bars.  Made with organic soy and shea butter in five different scents, these are guilty pleasure for me!  We carry some scents only seasonally so be sure to check back every so often.  If we don't have your favorite on hand just let us know and we can order it for you.

      Wild Women Spirit Totems
Another of Caboodle's best sellers is Kit's Wild Women.  Kit has her original copyrighted poem attached to each wild woman but each wild woman is unique unto itself.  These are made with sticks and nuts but this description in no way gives justice to these wonderful creations.  You HAVE to have a wild woman for yourself, your sister, girlfriends, mom and grandma.  The hardest part is choosing which one!

      Baggy Shirts
Baggy Shirts takes old button down shirts and turns them into messenger bag type purses, shopping bags and wine bottle/water bottle holders.  These items are wonderfully earth friendly.  Not only are these great looking but they can take abuse and be thrown in the wash (how many purses can you do that with?!).  Again, these items are going to be one of a kind since no two combinations of shirts are likely to be put together more than once.  If you're looking for a hardy, earth friendly purse that looks great then this is the ticket!

      Loelle Poneliet
Loelle is a knitter!  She makes wonderfully beautiful knit items: purses, hats and baby balls.  Everyone who picks up one of Loelle's creations is amazed.  Not only can Loelle do but she can teach!  She teaches our knitting classes.  Loelle started knitting in grad school to help relieve stress and it has turned into a lifelong love.  Loelle is one of our  stay at home moms.

     Alexandra Silverman
Alexandra is another of our teen vendors.  She hand dyes silk scarves, silk purses and scrunchies.  Her scarves are light and airy and perfect for adding that elegant touch to your spring outfits. The purses are just the right size for an evening out or for young girls.  Each scarf is hand dyed so each is a unique piece.  If you like one you see you better grab it up or it may not be here the next time you are in!

      TogetherBe
TogetherBe manufactures the Peekaru vest and the Freehand baby carrier (among other items).  The Peekaru is a great polar fleece vest that zips down the side instead of the front and has a hole in the front so you can wear the vest over you and your baby while carrying your baby in any soft baby carrier.  The polar fleece material is made with 85% recycled materials.  Another earth friendly product.  Melissa, a stay at home mom, designed and sewed the first vests in her own living room and this home based business has blossomed over the past two years.  Peekarus are sold all over the globe now and have been featured in many national magazines as well as making television appearances on shows like the Today show and other national tv shows.  If we don't have the size you want in the color you want just let us know and we can get it for!

   Iron Maiden of Denver
Dea is THE Iron Maiden of Denver!  Her metal work is fantastic!  We have lots of bugs as well as iris' and cala lillies that are rusted to perfection.  One of the neat things Dea does is to seal her metal items that are rusted so when they are handled you don't end up with rust all over your hands.  Caboodle also has some of Dea's metal faces and fish.  Her work is suitable for the garden or patio as well as indoors.  Just the perfect thing for someone who doesn't have a green thumb!

     A Touch of SAS
Susan at a  Touch of Sas does some wonderful wire work.  Everyone is familiar with dreamcatchers.  Well, Susan makes "Lovecatchers" in all sizes.  We carry the small that you can hang on your rear view mirror up to large that are nearly a foot across.  What better way to show someone you love them (or yourself for that matter!)

       Lindsay Donaldson
Lindsay uses old outdated maps from the public schools to cover gently used lampshades.  These lampshades are really awesome.  This is a great way to commemorate a trip you may have taken or a constant incentive for a place you want to go.  Either way these unique lampshades will be a conversation starter. There are no guarantees to what land masses we get in so if you like when you see it you better snatch it up!

        Shawnee Mountain Pottery
Vincent and Carolyn Lee Tolpo work together to make pottery that is truly one of kind.  Each piece is hand thrown on the potter's wheel or is hand-built.  Their stoneware is glazed to be weatherproof, lead-free, dishwasher safe, microwavable and oven proof.  We have a small sampling of their pieces so if you see a particular glaze but want a different piece or size we can get it for you.  Their work is just beautiful!

   Perfectly Twisted Jewelry
Susan at Perfectly Twisted is a true artisan.  She does absolutely beautiful wire wrapped pendants, necklaces, earrings and bracelets.  If you are looking for a one of a kind piece her work is it!  Her pieces are really mesmerizing and you will find that you want to work your wardrobe around the piece you buy.  Susan also makes our springy rooters and other spiraling hanging things.

Fresh Baked Pottery
Fresh baked pottery by Sheila Anderson is absolutely beautiful.  Right now we have a couple of bowls, wall hangings and pendants.  Much of what Sheila makes is hand stamped so each piece is unique.  Left over snippets of clay are turned into interesting and one of a kind pendants.  I must say that I have bought at least ten pendants for myself.  They go with everything!

Snippets
Snippets are hilariously funny women's designs.  The designs cover everything from motherhood to menopause with a little liquor thrown in for good measure!  These mousepads, magnets and card holders are guaranteed to make you smile and laugh.
Twisted Sisters Twirled Art
The ancient art of paper filigree, or quilling, is brought to life so elegantly with Twisted Sisters pieces.  When you first look at one of their creations it is hard to believe it is only paper.  A quilled piece of art is truly something unique that you don't see very often.  We have pieces that are small as well as large framable wall pieces.  Marla also teaches our Quilling classes here at Caboodle.  She is a wonderful, patient teacher and her classes are so much fun!

         Redvine Designs
Ginger of Redvine Designs is a talented crafter.  She works in glass and polymer clays.   Ginger has her items at the Art Museum and at Caboodle.  She also teaches our polymer clay classes.  There are classes each month at Caboodle in a variety of themes.  Caboodle carries pendants, necklaces, buttons and bracelets.  The beauty of polymer clays is the ability to create uniquely individual pieces that are lightweight.  They are amazing.

           Carol Brussel
Carol is a Jill of all Trades.  She can do anything!  Carol can pretty much embroider anything and if you have a picture she can customize nearly anything (even toilet paper!).  Carol makes our fabulous cloth bowls which work great for serving bread and rolls all the way to holding your hair or bath accessories.  These bowls can be used for everything!  Carol has brought us embroidered aprons, tote bags, ornaments and ties.  It's always a wonderful surprise to see her latest creation.

                   Susan Maxwell
Susan is an art teacher by profession and she does great folk art.  Currently we have several pieces that are a wonderful reuse of old discarded fencing.  Some of the pieces are functional as well as beautiful!  Susan has also conducted multi media art classes at Caboodle that have been a great hit.

                     Monika Strauss
The scarf lady!  Monika's scarves have been very popular.  The most popular of which are the multi colored.  Monika also works with Alpaca a lot and she offers the best prices out there for the materials she uses.  We also carry shrugs by Monika.  You just have to see them to really appreciate them.

                       Green Dragon Enterprises
Meg at Green Dragon Ent. uses mainly natural stone and silver for her wonderful necklace, earrings and bracelets.  Often times there are pieces that are discounted if bought in matching sets.  Often times, natural stones have wonderful benefits for the wearer.  there is no better way to reap the benefits of natural stone than with a beautiful piece by Green Dragon Enterprises!

                      A Small Place Studios
Ardith Stines is a talented watercolor artist.  She turns her watercolors into blank notecards and matted prints.  Originals are also available (just ask).  We carry packs of blank notecards as well as single cards and matted prints.  These cards work wonderfully as thank you's, invitations, or just something to say I am thinking of you for both adults and children.   What better way to instill the habit of writing thank you's with your children than with a pack of cards they find enthralling?  You just have to see these cards to really appreciate them.  If you don't see what you want in the format you want just ask and we can get it.

                      Creature Comforts
Carol Martin makes the best pet beds out there!  They are made with reclaimed materials, are all wool topped and completely washable.  These pet beds work well in crates, on furniture or in the car.  They aren't as bulky as some of the pet beds you see in other stores (makes them easier to wash) and wool naturally attracts pet hair so it keeps everything in one place.  We carry three different sizes that are appropriate for cats all the way up to big dogs.

                       Natural Names
Cara takes pictures of things in nature that look like letters of the alphabet and then uses theses letters to spell out names or words of your choosing.  She can customize any order up to 8 letters.  You can get your name or word matted and framed or buy the individual letters and frame then yourself.  You have a choice of black and white or sepia toned and 4X6 or 5X7.  There are several style options for each letter.  This is the ultimate gift for the person who has everything!

                       Connect The Dot Book
Remember when you were a kid and how much fun you had with your connect the dot book?  Well, connect the dot has grown up now, too!  With this grown up version of CTD you can have as much fun as you used to.  With pictures like the Mona Lisa, Molly Brown House, King Tut, Einstein and others you can while away the time with your kids without the use of electronics.  The real challenge lies in the Basket of Daisies with over 1400 dots!  These books are loads of fun!

                       Crafts at 5280
Janet and Jerry both bring their individual talents to Caboodle from Crafts at 5280.  Jerry turns pens and keychains from wood and other materials.  Not your normal keychains but special ones to help hold medication or toothpicks.  Both of these items are pretty handy to have!  All the pens are refillable, too.  The ultimate man-pen is the 50 caliber pen with moose antler!  Janet makes the most gorgeous concrete leaves.  She makes imprints of actual leaves in the concrete and after they cure she paints them to look so realistic.  They are wonderful as bird baths or garden decorations or even soap dishes with the small ones.  You really do have to see these to fully appreciate them.

                         JK Designs
Janet makes single and double strand suncatchers with long tube beads and swarovski crystals.  These brilliant suncatchers cast rainbows all over the shop each morning but by the time I open for business most of the rainbows are gone because the sun has moved too high.  :(  Janet also makes very unique earrings-my favorite being the tulip earrings.  I did have to buy a pair for myself.  I get comments on them all the time.  I have a hard time keeping these earrings in stock.  Each pair is different in color so you may have to get more than one!

                          Moisture Magic
Pat Whitney created her own line of skin care products when she could not find something that worked well on her skin.  The secret ingredient (shh!) is emu oil.  Emu oil has been used for ages by Australians as a healing salve.  It absorbs into the skin so completely without any greasiness.  We carry the hand cream, lip balm and cuticle cream.  A complete list of ingredients is available at the store as well as samples.  You will love this stuff!

                            Sean Doherty
Sean's artwork is all over Denver.  He recently completed a project with the city of Englewood for about a mile down Broadway (in the area of Hampden) that put large potted metal flowers on every block.  Caboodle sells those flowers and more by Sean.  Many of his creations are made with recycled materials.  Everything he makes is so whimsical and colorful you can't help but smile when you see it!  He will also do seasonal pieces that you won't find anywhere else.  Again, this is an item you have to stop by to see to really appreciate.  We have something in every price range.

                            Stella Riga Designs
This mother/daughter duo work together, in different cities via the mail, to create ceramic and wire pieces that are just adorable.  One of their ingenious pieces are the wine bottle charms.  Why give a plain bottle of wine when you can put a ceramic piece around the neck of the bottle that can then be hung on the walls as a reminder of the great time you all had together?  Their pieces are bight, colorful and happy!
